English: Heading for Chapter VIII, Al-Anfal. Double-page from the juz' 9 of the Sultan Barquq's Qur'an. On the right-hand folio are the last two verses of chapter VII, al-A'raf (The Heights); on the left-hand folio is verse one of Chapter VIII, al-Anfal (The Spoils of War). Copied by ‘Ali ibn Muhammad al-Mukattib al-Ashrafi (attribution), illuminated by Ibrahim al-Amidi (attribution) perhaps assisted by another artist. Donated by a deed of waqf (religious endowment) to a mosque in Cairo by Sultan Faraj ibn Barquq (1399 - 1412), probably originally commissioned by Sultan al-Ashraf Sha'ban or his mother Khawand Baraka.
