Description
English: H000149 Chest ornament made of tiny slips of pearl shell strung together, with trade bead tassles. Part of a mourning costume (heva) from Tahiti, the Society Islands, the Pacific. Probably collected on Cook's second voyage 1772-1775, when parts of at least 10 complete Tahitian mourning outfits were collected and the ceremonies further described and depicted in the journals of the voyage.
