Although the drowning of the two beautiful animals at the La.Purchase Gardens and Zoo is a terrible thing, please DO NOT FORGET that in 1974 a beautiful 18 month old baby girl drowned at that same zoo when the site seeing boat she and her parents were on took on water, capsized, and trapped her under in seven feet of murky water. There were 40 passengers on the boat that day, March 3, 1974, and even though her parents looked and looked for her, it took professional divers several hours to find her. Her name was Rebecca Lynn Simmering, the precious and only child of Rick and Jeanie Fallin Simmering, the only grandchild of Wayne and Velma Hood Fallin and Weston and Helen Stone Simmering, and the only great grandchild of Hester Pilgreen Hood, the only great niece of Maxwell Hood Parker, and the only niece of Paul and Judy Fallin Woodard. Please never forget this terrible tragedy to prevent it from ever happening again. I find it very strange that there is mention of all other incidents at the zoo except for this one.Even though it was many years ago, it is still fresh in the minds of so many people. It is a travesty that there is no mention of our Becky and the zoo’s admission of their part in her death. For shame!
