Germanic_dialects_ca._AD_1.png(419 × 431 pixels, file size: 15 KB, MIME type: image/png)
Description
English: The distribution of the primary Germanic dialect groups in Europe in around AD 0-100:
  •    North Germanic
  •    North Sea Germanic (Ingvaeonic)
  •    Weser-Rhine Germanic, (Istvaeonic)
  •    Elbe Germanic (Irminonic)
  •    East Germanic
  • Note 1: The coloured areas denote culturallinguistic areas which would, in the following centuries, diversify and grow apart. However, 1 - 100 CE, mutual intellegibility would have still been very great between all groupings.
  • Note 2: The black line denotes the Roman border at the time of the Flavian dynasty. Spots indicate areas made uninhabitable or extremly sparsely populated during the time portrayed due to the presence of heavy forestation, moors/swamps and/or mountain ranges.
  • Note 3: Lighter color striped areas denote either an area of mixed settlement (such as that between East-Germanic and the Balto-Slavic peoples) or possible settlement, such as that of the Istvaeones within the Roman Empire or the Ingvaenes in Northern Denmark.

Converted to SVG.svg
This map image could be recreated using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}. It is recommended to name the SVG file "Germanic dialects ca. AD 1.svg" - then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.
