"La bandera del municipio de Santa María, un pendón de longitud doble de la anchura, cuyos campos y colores se describen así: (...) un campo rectangular de color amarillo con base en el asta, ocupa la cuarta parte de la longitud total de la bandera, en el centro de dicho campo va estampada una tau minúscula de color negro. El campo restante de color verde, está atravesado por faja horizontal de color azul, de una quinta parte de la anchura total de la bandera."
