English: Fishguard Bay Hotel A zoomed shot taken from the eastern breakwater shows this massive hotel in its arboreal setting above the approach to the harbour ferry/rail terminal. (Note the line of the trucks waiting to board.)
It was substantially enlarged from an existing house named Wyncliffe and opened as a hotel in 1887, with further additions in the first decade of the C20, in anticipation of cruise liner trade which in the end never amounted to much, and then as a stopover for passengers using the ferry to Ireland.
It was a resthome for officers during both world wars, and also provided accommodation for the actors and crews on location for the films of Moby Dick and Under Milk Wood. It now hosts conferences, meetings and events.
The cliffside grounds were laid out by the Cornish firm Treseders and it has its own private access to and from the rail station.
