Summary

Description The First Presbyterian Church at 124 Henry Street between Pierrepont and Clark Streets in the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City was built in 1846 and was designed by William B. Olmstead. The congregation dates from 1822 and had their original church on Cranberry Street between Henry and Hicks Streets. At the time of the great schism in American Presbyterianism over slavery and other issues, some members of the church, in reaction to the "New School" preaching of Dr. Samuel Hanson Cox, split to start an "Old School" church, located at Remsen and Clinton Streets. while others left help start the Church of the Pilgrims, and others joined the Plymouth Church, which in 1846 bought the First Presbyterian site when the First Church, needing to expand, moved to Henry Street. Many of the stained glass windows in the new church were by the Louis Comfort Tiffany Studios. (Source: "History" from the church website)
