Summary

Description
English: U.S. 183 cuts south through an abandoned Fencepost limestonequarry as it approaches the Smoky Hill River bridge near Schoenchen, Kansas. Uphill from the quarry, limestone and shale of the Fairport Chalk are exposed. Facing west, the quarry is south of the red utility warning signs on the left.

Do not be fooled by the thicker limestone bed on the upper right (Fairport marker F-3). This is not the Fencepost limestone, although there is sign of extensive human study of this outcrop. It is clearly missing the orange steak and Inoceramus liabates fossils. It is also several feet higher than the excavation level of the quarry off to the left and it was never excavated here.

Another Fairport marker is present (F-2), just beneath of which is the Fairport bentonite marker (F-1)

The line of the Fencepost limestone (PF-3) is barely discernible at the lower left.
