English: Even Swindon Club, 44 Percy Street, Rodbourne The signs say "Even Swindon Club" but the full title is, or maybe was, "Even Swindon Working Men's Club & Institute Ltd". So in spirit, if not still in name, this is another of Swindon's many clubs which originated as working men's clubs. The CIU sign indicates that it is affiliated to the national body for working men's clubs. This particular club appears to still be well supported by its members. There is another club in the parallel street of Morris Street 1081418
The club's name derives from the fact that this part of Swindon, when building started in the 19th century, was known as Even Swindon. That name still strangely appears on maps, but today the area is firmly known as Rodbourne. Indeed if you asked a Swindonian where Even Swindon was, you would probably get a blank look, unless they were very elderly. But the name lingers on in a few institutions, such as this club and, of course, on maps.
