Català: Escut de Benicarló (el Baix Maestrat, País Valencià): «Escut partit. Primer, d'or, la Creu de Montesa, antiga, de gules; segon, d'argent, el card florit de sinople, posat en pal. La bordura d'atzur, carregada amb quatre lisos d'argent. Al timbre corona reial». Rehabilitat per Decret 541/1971, d'11 de març (BOE núm. 77 de 31/03/1971); es tracta d'una interpretació errònia del segell de 1724 on es va confondre la cartel·la amb un bordura que no apareix en cap altra representació de l'escut. Hi ha una proposta per recuperar l'escut històric correcte.

Primero, de oro, la Cruz de Montesa, antigua, de gules; segundo, de plata, el cardo florido de sinople, puesto en palo; la bordura, de azur, cargada de cuatro pises de plata. Al timbre corona real». Rehabilitado por Decreto 541/1971, de 11 de marzo (BOE núm. 77 de 31/03/1971); se tracta de una interpretación erronea del sello de 1724 en el que se confundió la cartela con un bordura que no aparece en ninguna otra representación del escudo. Hay una propuesta para recuperar el escudo histórico.
