Description
English: During the Iroquois Theatre fire of 1904, students and workers at nearby Northwestern University extended ladders and boards across the alley between the university and the theater, enabling some theatergoers to crawl across to safety.

Note that, as indicated by the mirror-reversed signature of artist Charles N. Landon, the Tacoma Times published this image in reverse.
