The transverse floorbeams are 4-in. pressed steel chan-nels. In the center of the car thesills are stiffened by the needlebeams and two transverse dia-phragms between the needlebeams which brace the droppedside girders under the center dooropenings. The needle beams arebuilt up of rS-in. x 4-in. top andbottom plates with 3/16-in. pressed channel fillers between sills. The diaphragms are pressed from ^4-in. plate with if^-in.flanges. SIDE AND ROOF FRAMING The side framing, which, with the sheathing plates, formsa deep girder, is designed to carry a large part of the loadbetween bolsters. No. 13 gage steel plates are riveted on theoutside of the side sills and posts up to the belt rail. This girder is composed of a 5/16-in. x 3-in. x5-in. bottom flange angle reinforced with a 7/16-in. x 2l/2-m.x 2j4-in. angle. The bottom flange of the shannel side sill iscut away at the ends of the drop girder just far enough topermit the flange angles to project up and be securely rivetedto the web of the side sill. The web plate of this drop girderis cut from one piece 12 ft. nJ4 in. long and 4 ft. 7l/A in. wide. The window posts are substantially the same design asused in the 1907 cars. They are pressed of No. 14 gage-sheetsteel into a hollow box section with grooves and ridges intowhich the sashes fit and are held by curved flat springs. Eachpost is braced at the bottom on the inside with a light angle. An outside belt rail formed of a special angle section w
