Summary

Description
English: East Texas Normal College students pose on the front porch of the original college building in Cooper. Founded in 1889, the Cooper campus offered courses from the elementary through the college level. The two-story frame building in Cooper housed the school and President William L. Mayo’s family. A fire destroyed the building in 1894, one of the events that prompted the relocation of the campus to Commerce.
