A plot of the electron-positron spectrum found in the 1976 Fermilab preprint that (incorrectly) found the upsilon meson at a mass of 6 GeV (see Oops-Leon), from http://lss.fnal.gov/archive/1997/conf/Conf-97-432-E.pdf

This work is ineligible for copyright and therefore in the public domain because it consists entirely of information that is common property and contains no original authorship.

After discussion here (see in particular the conclusions), it would appear that this plot, which is a standard presentation of data about the laws of nature, is not eligible for copyright under U.S. law because the image itself does not involve creative work. (This is not to say that an extraordinary amount of intelligence and effort didn't go into the production of the plot, but this apparently is not what's important.)
