Dollocaris spp. (thylacocephalan arthropod); Aeger brevirostris ("shrimp"); Coleia gigantea (sort of "lobster"); sea spiders; Proteroctopus ribeti ("vampyromorph"-related octopod); undetermined fishes and belemnitids swim in the water column. The sediment of La Voulte is rich in spicules of siliceous sponges, which verosimilarly covered sea bottom. The thylacocephalans are the target of this reconstruction: they are represented as nectonic-demersal predators and scavengers (one of them is hunting for the octopod; one is feeding on a teleostean fish carcass). The colors obviously are tentative: those of the sponges are taken from real examples; those of the crustaceans are camouflage on the sponges; that of the octopod is blackish-gray, similar to present-day vampyromorphs (with some bio-luminescent photophores). The color of thylacocephalans (totally extinct) is fantasy (it is made uniform to better highlight anatomical characters of carapace and appendages). The soft parts of thylacocephalans are still poorly known/understood, and are matter of discussion among paleontologists, therefore are not rendered in detail.
