Summary

Description
English: Council House frontage, Earls Street Coventry Council House was designed by E Garrett and H W Simister in Tudor style to blend in with the surrounding context at the time. Building commenced in 1913, was delayed by the first world war and completed in the 1920s. Here is detail of the decoration over the main entrance. To the left, right and top centre are statues of Leofric, Godiva and Justice in Portland stone by Henry Wilson. The boss immediately above the door is the pre-1950s Coventry coat of arms of elephant and castle surmounted by a cat-o'mountain. Other decoration is various heraldic devices associated with Coventry.
