DescriptionCoronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary RC Church, Buffalo, New York - 20200521.jpg
English: Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary RC Church, 374 Dewitt Street, Buffalo, New York, May 2020. Designed in a simplified late Gothic Style by architect Mortimer Murphy, the trio of compound-arched stained-glass windows facing Dewitt Street is echoed below by a trio of doors at the entrance framed by similar compound arches, and crowned by an open bell gable. Among the last new Catholic parishes in Buffalo to be established (excepting those created during the late-2000s "Journey in Faith and Grace" consolidation program from mergers of other parishes), Coronation was cleaved off the territory of Annunciation and Nativity parishes in 1950; the congregation met for six years in the former Ellen Terry Theatre on Grant Street before the dedication of their current church building. The church was spared from the spate of mergers that characterized the early-2000s "Journey in Faith and Grace" consolidation program due to its status as home of Buffalo's Vietnamese Catholic community, and Mass is still held in both Vietnamese and English.
