Les cornes de l'aurochs sauvages sont sous-estimées de 20%, car l'étui de kératine a disparu du crane fossile. On note que les cornes sont très orientées vers l'avant, quand les cornes du Watusi partent vers le haut. les cornes des aurochs de Heck sont variables : plus ou moins vers le haut, plus ou moins vers l'avant selon les individus.
