File:Coat of arms of Latymer Upper School (Hammersmith, London, England).svg

Original file(SVG file, nominally 1,020 × 1,270 pixels, file size: 24 KB)

This representation of a coat of arms is potentially different from the one used by the armiger (municipality or organisation) in question.
 =

“Sable, a lion
rampant or”
This coat of arms was drawn based on its blazon which – being a written description – is free from copyright. Any illustration conforming with the blazon of the arms is considered to be heraldically correct. Thus several different artistic interpretations of the same coat of arms can exist. Sometimes, the design officially used by the armiger is likely protected by copyright, in which case it cannot be used here.
Individual representations of a coat of arms, drawn from a blazon, may have a copyright belonging to the artist, but are not necessarily derivative works.

Object history

The other two quarters [shown] of the full display [not shown] show the arms of the Latymer family, awarded to them when the Crown granted them the Manor of Freston near Ipswich. The original significance of the flower on the arms is now sadly lost beyond recall but the cross crosslets are clearly visible...

With streamlined elegance, the new crest retains the shape and colour of the earlier badge, along with the white chevron and Latymer crosslet. Some of the busy detail of the existing crest, however, has been removed in order to project more clearly the confident Latymer of today By the same token, the motto (paulatim ergo certe = slowly but surely), a visual pun created in 1911, does not reflect the dynamic Latymer of 2004 and has been dropped. Although there are gaps in the School’s records over the past 400 years, it is thought that this is the fourth incarnation of the official Latymer symbol. This is also the first time that both the Prep and the Upper Schools will share the same insignia.
