Sobre el escudo o blasón, hallamos los símbolos de la dignidad de Arzobispo Primado: galero en verde con quince borlas a cada lado, propio de los primados y patriarcas latinos, pues corresponde al Primado de América; la cruz arzobispal en oro, compuesta de dos travesaños y siete piedras en rojo. La forma del blasón sigue la tradición hispánica, es cuartelado y lleva un sobrescudo. En el primer cuartel, de azul, un ancla en oro. En el segundo cuartel, de rojo, una biblia en plata y oro. En el tercer cuartel, de rojo, la Catedral Primada de América en oro. En el cuarto cuartel, de azul, la escena de la anunciación de María y la encarnación del Verbo. Predominan en plata las figuras de la Virgen con aureola en oro, el arcángel Gabriel y el Espíritu Santo en forma de paloma. En el sobrescudo de oro, lleva un cirio en plata, llama en rojo, con las letras M-V en azul, separadas por una cruz en rojo. Es el ideal personal del Arzobispo. En la base del escudo, en cinta de plata con letras en negro, se aprecia el lema: DIOS PROVEERÁ (cf. Génesis 22, 8). |
