Description
English: Coastal scene in poor weather, with two women seated on a promenade bench under a lamp post, one with an umbrella, looking out to sea

No. 36 of 36 (PAI0849 - PAI0884).

Stored loose at back of Mends's 'Trafalgar' sketchbook of 1850-53, containing PAI0849-PAI0883, of which one drawing is also dated 1862. The date of this one may be on the back, since it is not on the image side. While the scene and figures are unidentified, it is probably in England and, if in the 1860s, may show Mends's wife (left) and at least near-adult daughter, Mary Louise - the only child he is currently known to have had - who married in 1877, some years after his death.
