Канонічний сплайсинг продукує зрілі мРНК та їх сплайс-варіанти з пре-мРНК. Кожна мРНК має кеп (на 5'-кінці, темно фіолетове напівколо) та полі-A-хвіст (аденінові нуклеотиди на 3'-кінці).
