DescriptionCharles Paxton Zaner at desk - undated.jpg
English: C. P. Zaner (1864-1918) American master penman and educator. Photograph showing Zaner writing with a dip pen consisting of a straight penholder and nib.
Zaner was an exponent of the American style of handwriting that included using muscular arm movement instead of a predominant finger action (see also "muscle motion" of the Palmer Method). In this photograph Zaner's writing forearm rests on the table, while the hand is supported by the tips of the smallest fingers rather than the heel of the hand, to enable the pen to be controlled by the larger arm muscle groups.
