La Carretera Austral (Ruta CH-7) es una carretera chilena, que se encuentra en la Zona Sur de Chile. En su recorrido actual de 1.240 kilómetros une Puerto Montt con Villa O'Higgins,[1] siendo la principal vía de transporte terrestre de la XI Región de Aisén y de la Provincia de Palena en la X Región de Los Lagos, permitiendo su conexión con el resto del territorio del país. Debido a las complicadas características geográficas del territorio, en el que predominan los Andes Patagónicos, lagos, turbulentos ríos y la presencia de campos de hielo, la construcción de la Carretera Austral está en permanente reparación aún cuando la mayor parte de sus tramos están operativos. Por otro lado, gran parte de la ruta carece de pavimentación. La Carretera Austral es también conocida de forma no oficial y propagandística como la Carretera Presidente Pinochet o la Carretera Longitudinal Austral Presidente Pinochet, a pesar de que ningún documento oficial señale la existencia de dicho nombre para la ruta. |
