Description
English: Captain Daniel V. Gallery, USN, Commanding Officer of the U.S. Navy escort carrier USS Guadalcanal (CVE-60), on the bridge of the captured German submarine U-505 prior to its being taken in tow by his escort carrier, 4 June 1944. U-505 was the first enemy warship captured on the high seas by the U.S. Navy since 1815. Note the large U.S. flag flying over the German naval ensign.
