1901-1905 in a major shipbuilding firm in Douala, many of his photographs show the town of Douala. Possibly all the images Carl Hohl ever photographed were given by his nephew to the Bundesarchiv in 1985.
For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
