DescriptionBritish Columbia Parliament, Victoria (7700701632).jpg
Victoria is the provincial capital of British Columbia, and this is the parliament building, open to the public for tours. Being on the lawn is already a very nice experience in itself though, thanks to the people watching and musicians.
And here is the statue of Queen Victoria, who reigned over the British Empire for most of the 19th Century and was a notorious social conservative. Even today, Victorian social conservatism is a lingering nightmare in many former British colonies. Something else that's lingering today: the British monarch continues to be the ceremonial head of state for Canada and many other Commonwealth nations.
