Associated Press images distributed to news organizations in the United States between 1927 and 1963 did not have their copyright renewed and are also in the public domain. All Associated Press images published from January 1, 1964 to the present are under copyright and cannot be hosted by Wikimedia Commons servers located in the United States. The Library of Congress writes: "In an attempt to determine if AP/Wide World registered any copyrights and if those copyrights were renewed, Specialists in the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress searched the Copyright Office files. It was found that only a few images were registered for copyright and those copyrights were not renewed."

This work is in the public domain because it was published in the United States between 1929 and 1963, and although there may or may not have been a copyright notice, the copyright was not renewed.
