Native, warm-season, perennial, stoloniferous ascending herb to 17 cm tall; hairless except for a few hairs at the base of the leaves. Leaves form a basal rosette and are oblanceolate, up to 6.5 cm long, margins entire, toothed or pinnatisect with acute, obovate to lanceolate lobes. Heads are solitary; bracts are uniseriate; disc florets are tubular and yellow; ray florets are mauve or white and to 4 mm long. Fruit are brown to black achenes with the body sharply demarcated from the wing by a ridge. Grows in swampy ground, often along roadsides.
