The work, entitled The corpse of Jacopo de' Pazzi, was performed on his return from the First War of Independence. In the inventory of the deposits of the Gallery of Modern Art, the painting is mentioned as a Scene of old Florence outside the walls near Porta San Miniato - Middle Ages; but the excited scene that takes place could probably refer to the episode to which the title refers. The date 1864 and the signature would therefore have been affixed later and do not even appear in the autograph graphics. While still dealing with a historical subject, Borrani reveals his interest in the study of light and strong chiaroscuro contrasts in a very solid form, mindful of his academic training and practice as a restorer together with Gaetano Bianchi in Santa Croce.
