the crown. May we not say with Mr.and Mrs. Grinnell that Mr. Golden-crownlifts his hat to Mrs. Golden-crown ? Weinay learn patience and to be satisfiedwith nature as we find it, if we will studythe life of the Golden-crown. It is alwayshappy, always cheerful. Seemingly itflies from bough to bough as contentedlyin the rain as in the sunshine and in coldas well as iti warm weather. In manyrespects this kinglet resembles the warb-lers, but it is much tamer. While seekingits food it exhibits some of the character-istics of the flycatchers. Mr. Brewster describes its song as be-ginning with a succession of five or sixfine, shrill, high-pitched, somewhat falter-ing notes, and ending with a short, rapid,rather explosive warble. The opening-notes are given in a rising key, but thesong falls rapidly at the end. The wholemay be expressed as follows: Tzee, tzee,tzee, tzee, ti, ti, ler. ti-ti-ti-ti. Its call noteis simply ti-ti uttered in a fine and wellniochilated voice that is scarcely audible.

This is usualW a pen-sil structure and is hung from the branch-es at from four to fifty or more feet fromthe ground. It is globular in form withthe entrance near the top. Mosses anddead leaves are used in its constructionand it is lined with soft and fine fibers ofbark and feathers. Someone has said of a Golden-crownedKinglet: T often spoke to him as if hewere a real person ; and he appreciatedmy words of praise, too, without doubt,for he would come scurrying near, dis-porting his head so that I could catchthe gleam of his amber coronal, withits golden patch for a center piece.
