Summary

Description
English: This card from 1621 was made by Abraham Goos and based on the map of the Seventeen Provinces of Willem Jansz Blaeu from 1608. A striking feature in the card content is the deliberate omission of the area known as 'Leodiensis Episcopatus'. The Liège diocese is empty on the map because it is not part of the seventeen provinces of the Netherlands in legal terms. This card is unique, there is no other card on which the area has been intentionally left empty. The recovery of the Zijper, Beemster and Purmer polders and a small area in the Dollart region is also indicated on the map. The card is issued by Ian Iansen (Johannes Janssonius?); In the cartouche at the bottom of the map in the middle, read the following text: 'Gedruckt tot Amstredam bij Ian Iansen Boekverckoper wonende in t water op de Paskaert.' Translated: 'Printed in Amsterdam by Ian Iansen Booksalesman living in the water on the Paskaert.'
