DescriptionBeach-Tuyn Funeral Home, Williamsville, New York - 20200605.jpg
English: The Beach-Tuyn Funeral Home, 5541 Main Street at South Cayuga Road, Williamsville, New York, June 2020. One of the oldest still-functioning businesses in Williamsville, it's situated in an 1888 building whose belvedere cupola still testifies to the Italianate style of architecture despite what appears to be extensive modernization to the first and second stories. Beach-Tuyn's history begins with Demeter Wehrle (1824-1913), who was born in what is now western Germany and arrived in Williamsville in 1848. A carpenter by trade, Wehrle set up shop two years later in the old Williamsville Hotel building where he manufactured furniture, cabinets, and eventually, custom-made coffins, whence the evolution of his business into a funeral parlor and mortuary. Son John Wehrle continued the business after his father's retirement, and to this day it continues to be owned by descendants of the family.
