DescriptionBathgate Upper Station - geograph.org.uk - 1770460.jpg
English: Bathgate Upper Station,
Near to Bathgate, West Lothian, Great Britain.
View SE, towards Edinburgh. This photograph was taken 6½ years(!) after the station and the passenger service through it between Edinburgh (Waverley) and Glasgow (Queen Street Low Level) ceased (9/1/56, yet it looks remarkably functional in this photograph. As far as I can make out, the last goods train to pass through on this particular line was in 2/82, but I remain baffled by the complexity and history of the lines in this area and welcome an expert opinion! The new Bathgate station, opened on 24/3/86 when a service to Edinburgh was restored, is slightly to the east.
