Summary

Description
English: A partial capture of a "Copy of Map of Burlington To its Original boundaries From actual survey 1798". The map is generally oriented with north at the top. Highlighted in green at the center of the map is where the University Green is located today.
Burlington Lots, 1798
The linear thoroughfare adjacent to the south, east, and west of the University Green is the "Winooski Turnpike", known today as Main St. and/or Williston Rd. A map covering a greater area is linked from the included image (click on 'More Details', look right). This map was uploaded to illustrate lots No. 112, 130, 129, 128, & 32 which parcel the land where Morrill Hall at the University of Vermont is eventually to be built by the year 1907. A copy of a complementary document, the "Copy of Division of Lands in Burlington" (obtained from the UVM Library Special Collections Department) was developed during a "proprietors' meeting" that took place on 16-20 June 1798, states that Lots "set to Ira Allen" include the aforementioned numbered parcels (in addition to many others). A March 1836 "Map of Burlington in Vermont" (by John Johnson, Surveyor General) illustrates the same five parcels, which abut the intersection of Main St./Williston Rd. and the southeastern corner of the University Green (where today exists "University Place" and Morrill Hall). This map serves as a testament that Ira Allen did originally own the land on which Morrill Hall was built upon.
