File:Atmospheric seeing r0 t0.svg

Original file(SVG file, nominally 230 × 230 pixels, file size: 26 KB)

Summary

Description
English: This picture schematically illustrates astronomical seeing, a process where the light from a (far away) object is perturbed by the Earth's atmosphere. The wavefront enters at the top, and travels through the inhomogeneous atmosphere. While doing so, the wavefront is distorted which results in a blurry image. The two quantities r_0 and t_0 denote the spatial- and temporal coherence-length respectively.
