Summary
DescriptionAstoria Boulevard art vc.jpg |
The MTA reopened the Astoria Blvd (N, W) station on Wednesday, Dec. 18, after a nine-month closure of the station. The station is undergoing a multi-phase rehabilitation, and the first phase to rebuild the station mezzanine with more vertical clearance was completed on time this December. During this critical work, the station was closed to service so that crews could demolish the existing mezzanine rebuild it to prevent strikes by trucks or other over-height vehicles traveling beneath the elevated station and track structure. With the newly rebuilt mezzanine completely, Astoria Blvd will remain open as work on the other phase of the work continues. This part of the project includes installation of four new elevators and other accessibility features. The full project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2020. The station now includes newly commissioned artwork from MTA Arts & Design by MacArthur Fellow Jeffrey Gibson. More of the glass artwork, called "I AM A RAINBOW TOO," will be installed in the station mezzanine as work continues at the station.
