Summary

Description

Pensive Bodhisattva is a common motif in Korean Buddhist art, portraying a bodhisattva (most likely Maitreya) in deep thoughts. This example, with its head and arms gone, was found near Gyeongju, and was carved from a single block of stone.

While Korean pensive Bodhisattva is very well known and influenced Japanese examples, China and India also have their own.
