English: Relief of the monument in memory of Lieut. Thomas Osborne Kidd who died in the siege of Sevastopol on 18 June 1855, sculpted by Thomas Farrell. (See Kevin V. Mulligan, The Buildings of Ireland: South Ulster, p. 106.) Inscription below (see here): Sacred to the memory of Thomas Osborne Kidd R.N. Lieut. of H. M. Ship Albion. (Son of Joseph Kidd Esqre. and Mary Anna his wife,) who fell pierced by a rifle ball whilst serving in the naval brigade, before Sebastopol. In the attack on the Redan on the 18th June 1855, aged 24 years. The circumstances of his death are thus detailed in the official despatch from Capt. Sir Stephen Lushington R.N. to Rear Admiral Sir Edmund Lyons G.C.B. “It is with extreme regret I have to report the death of Lieut. Kidd who fell on the 18th inst. after bringing the remains of his party safely into the trenches, he again returned to the open to recover some wounded men, and in this gallant act of devotion to his duty he was shot through the body by a rifle ball, and died shortly after reaching the camp. Lieut. Kidd was an honour to the brigade, and Her Majesty's service has lost one of its most promising young officers” This monument is erected by the inhabitants of Armagh, to record their grief for his early death and their admiration of the last act of his brief but distinguished career.
