Description
English: On Tuesday, April 19, and Wednesday, April 20th, 1904, a massive fire ripped through Toronto’s downtown core (in the Bay - Wellington - Esplanade area.) The first alarm sounded at 8:04pm, under a strong north-west wind (30-40 mph). The fire was not under control until 10 am the next morning. This fire insurance map shows the area damaged by the fire.
Français : Cette carte illustre la région détruite lors du Grand incendie de Toronto le 19 et 20 avril 1904. La partie de la ville incendiée (de Bay à Wellington jusqu’à l’Esplanade) était un quartier de grossistes. Le signal d’alarme parti à 8h04. Un vent d’environ 48 à 64 km/h aggravait la situation et le feu ne fut contrôlé avant 10h00 le lendemain matin.
