(a) Near-terminator photography of the Descartes region, showing materials of the Descartes Mountains, Cayley Formation, and surrounding highlands (AS16-124-19829 to 19831). (b) Lunar Orbiter IV photograph 89 of the same area at a 22 Sun-elevation angle. In both cases, the arrow indicates the Apollo 16 landing point. This version is rotated so that the foreground is at the bottom, and north is to the right. |
