Summary

Description
English: Anti-Nazi Algerian cartoon showing Hitler and a fascist blackshirt Mussolini desecrating Islam, copied from a propaganda pamphlet by Abder-Rahmane Fitrawe published in 1939 and distributed by the Alliance Israélite Universelle in Paris.
  • In 1939, Abder-Rahmane Fitrawe published Le racisme et l’Islam' ("Racism and Islam") which sought to illustrate the threat of Nazism and fascism by arguing that they went against the teachings of Islam. The pamphlet consisted of illustrations to alert the Muslim community of Nazism and fascism, with excerpts of Mein Kampf in both Arabic and French.
  • Satirical commentary drawing criticizing Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy's condescending relationship with and oppressive attitude towards Arab and Muslim countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
The line drawing depicts caricatures of Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini holding whips and wearing black knee-high boots, along with a kneeling shoeshiner seen from behind, a Muslim man with a tall brimless cylindrical hat (soft Fez?), shoe polish, and brushes, polishing their boots. Hitler has placed one boot on a stack of three books used as a footstool, two books labeled "Quran" and one labeled "Islam." Surrounding them are nameplates of relevant countries in the region: Turkey, Iraq, Palestine, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Morocco, and Ethiopia. The texts are in French. At the top are two symbols: the swastika and the fasces.

The introduction says:
A few selected quotes from the most characteristic of Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf make up this pamphlet. They are accompanied by drawings. What is the purpose of these illustrations? Many works have already been published, some of which contain hundreds of pages, devoted to Mein Kampf, which is for National Socialism what the Gospel is for Christians and the Koran for Muslims. But it seemed necessary to give a more simple and more exact, in its brutal reality, of the real goals of this political movement which calls itself "nationalsocialist", of this doctrine of hatred against peoples who are not German, and what constitutes "racism". A Muslim cannot accept this doctrine so contrary to the teachings of his religion; he cannot grant his sympathy to the 3rrd Reich which officially proclaimed: The Right, that's what benefits the German people. Hitler and Mussolini are the two marabouts of an identical doctrine and the illustrations which follow will show the terrible consequences that a victory of racism German or Italian would have for the world of Islam. By defending its rights in Africa, France is defending his subjects; she doesn't want them to become slaves to racism.
