Description

An illustration of the seal of Alan fitz Walter. The seal reads "SIGILL. ALANI FILII WALTERI.". The seal was appended to the renunciation by Alan, of all claims to the lands of Blenselei in favour of the Melrose Abbey, circa 1190 (see source below, page 127, #772).

The image has been scanned from Descriptive catalogue of impressions from ancient Scottish seals, royal, baronial ecclesiastical, and municipal, embracing a period from a.d. 1094 to the commonwealth, plate 3, figure 2, by Henry Laing, published in 1850. This book was published in Edinburgh, Scotland. The illustration is not credited.
