Townsend, founder of the Little River Lumber Company, in the early 1900s. W.B. and Alice Townsend built their primary residence across the road that later burned, along with a number of cottages initially rented out to vacationers by Mrs. Townsend after the Colonel's death. The cottages along Little River were sometimes referred to as "Millionaire's Row."
