English: Australians from the 2/23rd Battalion raise the Union flag over Wareo, New Guinea, 9 December 1943. GROUP OF OFFICERS AND MEN OF THE 2/23RD AUSTRALIAN INFANTRY BATTALION, GROUPED AROUND THE UNIT VICTORY FLAG. THIS FLAG WAS PREVIOUSLY RAISED OVER KOKODA, BUNA AND SATTELBERG.
