Description

English: View of the Tijgersgracht on Batavia taken from the Atlas van der Hagen, Koninklijke Bibliotheek, The Hague, part 4.

In the mid 17th century, the Tijgersgracht was deemed the most attractive of the fifteen city centre canals in Batavia. The canal was lined with the houses and buildings of the city's most prominent families.

Compare with the sketch by Johannes Rach in the National Library of Indonesia, inv.nr. BW 11 and the copper print in Koninklijke Bibliotheek, inv. nr. 388A9_dl_002_na_p_198.
