Summary

Description
English: A winchman from 84 Squadron, RAF Akrotiri is lowered to the deck during a medevac exercise on HMS Enterprise.

84 Sqn are the UK military’s last remaining Search and Rescue squadron; however, they only operate in and around their home in Akrotiri, Cyprus.

The personnel assisted with a week-long series of exercises conducted by HMS Enterprise whilst they continue their year long voyage. The main aim of the exercise was focussed around accident planning and 84 Sqn provided the SAR element, responding from their home unit at RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus.

During this particular exercise a winchman (Flight Sergeant Dan Whittington) from the Griffin HAR2 helicopters rear crew was winched on to the vessel’s deck and assisted the Royal Navy medical team in extracting a simulated casualty.
