Description27.05.17 Tegernsee 609.113, 609.102, 643.116 and 643.009 (35246065165).jpg
Tegernsee around midday on a very warm 27 May 2017. This 12km branch from Schliersee was missed out on visits to the area in the late 1980s as wasn't DB owned. Until 1999, passenger services were operated by Tegernsee Bahn who still own the line. Operation was handed over to Bayerische Oberlandbahn GmbH (BayOB) along with other lines to the south and east of München.
The non-electrified branches in the area formerly operated by DB with class 218s were taken over by a fleet of "Integral" 2-car DMUs built in 1998, these are numbered VT101 to VT117 in addition to being allocated class 609s. Further stock has since been acquired, these being Bombardier Talent 3-car units being allocated class 643s.
With the the mountains in the background, Tegernsee is a popular lakeside resort and the train from München that morning was full and standing all the way. Seen here from left to right are units 609.113, 609.102 plus 643.116 (behind) and 643.009 in the right hand platform. 609.112 was to form train BOB86994, 12:52 Tegernsee to München Hbf. The train would join up with another similar until at Schilersee (originating from Lenggries) and another one at Holzkirchen (originating at Bayerischzell).
