Bandhavgarh National Park is home to 22 species of mammals and 300 species of birds. But visitors are usually most interested to see the elusive tiger. The jeep stopped at a little pond where sometimes a tiger will go to bathe or drink. The density of the tiger population at Bandhavgarh is one of the highest known in India. The park has a large breeding population of leopards, and various species of deer. Maharaja Martand Singh of Rewa captured the first white tiger in this region in 1951. |
