Summary

Description
English: All-American Soap Box Derby World Champion for 1967, designed, constructed and driven to victory by Ken Cline, age 13, of Lincoln, Nebraska. Named Experimental III, the monocoque body was constructed around a driver-crouch-forward configuration, favoring a front-axle-placed-rearward stance that shortened the wheelbase and shifted the driver's weight aft. The innovative design was awarded best of at Derby Downs that year. Its gracile, nose-up profile was a radically new approach at the time. The extant car is on exhibit at the AASBD Hall of Fame Museum in Akron, OH. Illustration by Bill Wrigley
